Agricultural Mixed Bonspiel a great success!

On Wednesday 12th February  Ayr Ice rink held its annual competition with 22 teams participating this  year, from as far afield as Biggar and Hamilton.

Competition was of an extremely high standard and after the final games, places for top three prizes couldn't have been closer, with teams being separated by shot tally difference. 

This year's winning rink (main photo) was team skipped by Drew Gemmell, Steven McNab, Colin McDougal and Marlene Muir who won all three of their games.

JimbSecond place was decided by superior shot difference with Jim Boswell's team edging out Keith Rennie's team into 3rd place. Jim's team was Charlie Steele, Gillian King and Gillian Reid. Making up Keith's team was Mungo Howat, Bill Alexander and Allison Alexander. The booby/ haggis prize was also closely contested and Jennifer and Ernest Mutter along with Russell and Tricia Moss being awarded this accolade!!!

Around 80 curlers sat down to meal and prize giving which was generously hosted by sponsors of this event, namely Robert Wilson and Son, Burnhouse, Rural Finance, Wm Kerr Tractors, Bell Ingram, James P Campbell and Sons, David Lindsay Storage and Aryshire Curlers Ltd.

GroupA tradition which has been going for many years under the guidance of Iain and Betty Matheson is the special prizes given for individual performances on the day. This year in their absence gifts were awarded to the following recipients, (Ayr CC's version of the BAFTA's)

Most loving couple on ice went to Andy and Jan Eccles, Crosshill CC. Most sexy sweeper award in male category John Walker and Lorna Munro in female category. 

Gifts were also given to Bobby Ireland and Bert Andrew for services to Ice Rink in times of need. 

Special mention to Score master Hubert Ireland who did a fantastic job,and the ice staff who managed to turn around a problem with Sunday's ice in 24hrs - well done Liam and Andrew.
