Intercity v Borders at Ayr, Tuesday 1st March
“Today we welcomed two rinks from Borders Ice Rink led by Skips Jim Cullen and Colin Martin to compete for the Tom & Mattie Smillie Quaich. The last meeting was in 2020, so it was great that we managed to arrange this match given constraints thrown up by Covid and lateness in the season.
Ayr was led by Skips Gemmill Jack ( Charles Sutherland, Ken Ireland and Jean Morton ) and Gavin Morton ( Lorna Munro, David Hope and Gillian McDonald ).
Gemmill’s rink led throughout against Colin winning 10 shots to 2. In contrast Gavin was beaten by Jim 7 shots to 4.
Consequently, the Quaich was retained by Ayr.
An enjoyable afternoon was rounded off with some culinary delights served by Lorrie and Staff, to whom we thank.
My thanks to Gavin and Jean Morton for stepping in at very short notice to fill last minute Covid casualties !
Looking forward to visiting Kelso next season hopefully under “normal circumstances “.
