Willie Johnston Trophy - Ayr v Hamilton

29 January 2014

Unfortunately Hamilton turned up at Ayr with one rink missing for this year's playing of the Willie Johnston Trophy. However, a call to Charlie Steele of Ayr and Alloway by his brother, Tom ensured that the three games could proceed albeit with all three Hamilton rinks one man short.

The Ayr rink skipped by Jim Young gave Jim Stewart's Hamilton rink a 3 shot start but managed to claw it back before ultimately losing 4-5. However, Gavin Hamilton romped home against Jack Blackwood 11-4 and, best of all, Jim Boswell beat Bob Parry 15-3 to ensure that the salver stayed in Ayr for another year.

A curlers' tea followed with a few good stories and some, not so good, jokes, to ensure that everyone had a most enjoyable afternoon.

The Ayr rinks -

Jim Young, Andrew Kerr, Andy Eccles and Hubert Ireland
Gavin Hamilton, Alan Forrest, Euan Lawrence and George McNaughton
Jim Boswell, Neil Beattie, John Davers and James Galloway

Thanks to Andrew Kerr for the report.
