Four Ayrshire Province rinks headed through to Edinburgh on Monday 9 February to take on Midlothian Province in the Waldie Griffiths - the National Inter Province competition.
Tom Andrews' Galston Babes comprising Lorraine Shaw, Alison Cunningham and Catherine McCubbin were the Ayrshire stars winning by 9 shots to 2 against a rink from Boswall Curling Club. Ronnie Peat lead a Crosshill / Gangrels "select" with Hubert Ireland, Robert Charters and Alastair McFadzean and they also triumphed against a rink from the DAFS club by 7 shots to 5.
The Troon Portland rink of Mike McNeil, Mara Lindsay, Bert McKay and Andrew Kerr (skip) were in the lead until the sixth end but eventually succumbed to the wiles of Penicuik's Walter Brown by 6 shots to 9 and finally, the Ayr and Alloway rink of Jan Barber, John Wylie, Charlie Steele and Geoff Barber came up against a very strong Carrington rink and went down 1 - 9.
So, overall, the result was two games each with Midlothian scoring 25 shots to Ayrshire's 23 shots - four most enjoyable games with a tight result very unlikely to be good enough to put Midlothian Province in the running to win the trophy !
