The annual Dundonald, Troon and Kilmarnock bonspiel took place on Tuesday evening past for the Gairdner Trophy. Four rinks from Dundonald, four from Troon Portland and four from a Kilmarnock Select comprising two from Townend's successor, the Land o' Burns and one each from Riccarton and Darvel took up all six sheets of ice in friendly competition.
Last season the trophy had been won by Troon Portland but they were not to repeat their previous success recording a solitary peel by the rink skipped by Bert McKay in their game against Archie McGregor's Dundonald rink.
Dundonald did not fare much better with a solitary win by Robert Wilson over Ewan Marr's Troon Portland rink to add to the peel.
On the night, the clear winners were the Kilmarnock rinks with Hugh Guthrie's Riccarton rink beating Andy Kerr's Troon Portland rink, John Evans' Land o' Burns rink beating Tom Barr's Dundonald rink, Duncan McNaught's Darvel rink beating Davie Kerr's Troon Portland rink and Robert Boyd's Land o' Burns rink coming out on top against Jim Miller's Dundonald side.
Hugh Guthrie's rink of Alan, Kirsty and Jane was the highest up and the trophy was presented to Hugh by Dundonald President Morag Evans after which everyone enjoyed supper.
