Dundonald CC will be celebrating their bicentennial in season 2020 / 2021 and as a fundraising venture for this and just as a summer social event in its own right, we held a croquet afternoon on Sunday 9th June 2019.
A number of clubs were invited and teams from Symington, Troon Portland, Sorn, Dalry Union, Riccarton, Land o’Burns, Kilwinning, Ayr and Alloway, Galston, Kilmaurs, Crosshill and Darvel were all represented. By the time our own members were included we had a grand total of 96, some playing croquet for the first time, some seasoned veterans and some just along enjoying the spectacle.
Dundonald Boys Brigade were in charge of the burgers and the strawberries and ice cream also went down a treat.
We were very lucky with the weather and everyone had a lovely afternoon catching up with fellow curlers as well as getting to grips with the sometimes dirty tactics involved in croquet - you think you’ve placed your ball strategically to go through the hoop on your next hit only for the opposition to use their turn to send you into the bushes !!
Thanks to Robin and Jean Archibald for hosting us at Glenburn Dairy.
