Report on Dunlop Memorial Salver

The Dunlop Memorial Salver games have all been completed for the season with the final games ,dinner and presentation of prizes taking place on Tuesday 10th March .

As in the years gone past the league was very close with 4 teams in contention going into the final league game.

The Knockout competitions had already been decided with the Robert Struthers team of Ronnie Doak ,Mary Foy and Kay Bennet defeating Duncan McCallum’s rink of Jim Morrison, Yvonne McCallum and Kim Potter in the High Road Final.

The Low Road Final was won by David Chynoweth ,Chris Clow, George Currie & Irene McWhirter who defeated Ross Drummond ,Ella McLennan, John McWhirter& Ishbel Mc Dougall

Now to the league after 10 games played and the final game looming there were 2 teams on 14 points and 2 teams on 13 points so it was all to play for with various possible outcomes.

However the Robert Struthers team defeated the team of Colin Naismith to take the first place with Iain Grieve,s taking second place , Colin Naismith in third place and Gordon Johnstone skipped his team to fourth

Third          Colin Naismith, Ronnie Doak , Ian Wilkie & Kay Bennet

The Effin Duck trophy this year was awarded to the David Chynoweth league team.

A new award this year was the “Morton “ trophy to be awarded to any player voted by their fellow players to be worthy of recognition .The award was presented by Margaret Morton and was named in appreciation of the work Margaret and Willie Morton made to these competitions.The first winner of the trophy was John Steele.

Thanks to the sponsors Carlton Hotel , The Board of Ayr Curlers the Rink Staff and Passion Caterers for helping to make a successful season .

Anyone of a certain age who would like to play in these competitive but friendly competitions or withdraw from them should notify the ice rink office who pass their details to the organising committee
