Dundonald CC held a bonspiel on Sunday 06 March 2022 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the club.
6 rinks of Dundonald members and 10 rinks of invited clubs enjoyed a “pink gin”, courtesy of Club Secretary, Andrew Kerr, before being piped onto the ice by Fergus Goldie, grandson of Honorary President Liz Goldie. After an enjoyable afternoon of curling and banter, captured by the many photos of club member Bill Rae, the curling was concluded with the top 4 rinks from both sections competing to determine the eventual winners.
The winning rink from Stewarton Heather was skipped by David Reid, with Hugh Reid, James Whiteford and Alex Whiteford.
Runners Up were Dundonald 6 skipped by Mark Meehan with David Hope and Isabel McGeoch. In 3rd position it was Dundonald 1 skipped by Bobby Gault with Jim Miller, Linda Williams and Johnanne Stewart and in 4th place the rink from Crosshill, skipped by Bobby Ireland with Liam Scott, Bert Andrew and Alex Connell. Prizes were presented by Liz Goldie.
Following the meal and prize giving the evening was brought to a close with a vote of thanks to Dundonald CC on behalf of the invited clubs by Bobby Ireland.
Thanks to Gemmill Jack for the scores throughout the afternoon and getting the curlers onto the ice in a timely manner, the ice staff, Amy and the bar staff and Lorrie and the catering staff for attending to us through the event.
Nicola George from Ayrshire Cancer Support, the nominated charity for the Dundonald bicentennial charity raffle, attended during the afternoon to give the curlers a quick presentation on the charity and an oversight into how the money raised from the raffle will be used to support the Ayrshire community. Raffle prize winners will be announced at the bicentennial dinner on 2nd April at Gailes Hotel, Irvine.
