David Hope is curling in the Strathcona Cup West Tour to Canada.
Here are the first two of his reports.
16th January
Since my initial email to you we have visited Peace Arch on Friday morning & then Royal City Curling Club in the afternoon. At Peace Arch the Scots had 3 draws and a win. At Royal City we recorded 3 loses & 1 win.
Yesterday we travelled to Vancouver Island in the morning. Once on the island we travelled North to Qualicom & District Curling Club we recorded 2 wins & 2 loses. We were treated to excellent hospitality from our hosts & everyone had a most memorable evening. The hospitality at all of the ice rinks we have visited has been excellent.
This morning we have travelled to Victoria the former Capital of Canada where we will play today’s game at Victory Curling Club. Victoria is the most westerly point of Canada. We were taken to see the point, with views across the water to Washington State.
Tomorrow is a travel day with us, leaving Victoria by plane as we begin our journey East. We will fly to Kelowna. We have a successful opening day opening day in Tunnel Town CC in Tsawwassen BC where the Scot teams got off to a good start with 4 rinks winning their games out of 5. The morning games the Scots played rinks from Richmond CC.
In the afternoon we played the members of the Tunnel Town CC. The games were competitive. Unfortunately we came of second best in these games.
This morning we are in Peace Town & this afternoon we travel to Royal City CC.
Signing off for now.
