Scottish Senior Championships

22 February 2020

Congratulations to Robert Anderson playing lead to Keith Prentice for winning the Ferguson Oliver Scottish Senior Mens Championship this afternoon at Lanarkshire Ice Rink.

Earlier Team Prentice had beaten David Hardie’s rink in the semi final to set up a showdown with John Duff’s Forfar rink, their opposition in the first game of the round robin.

In the final Keith Prentice scored a single in the first end and there then followed three blank ends or, as Keith referred to them in his winner’s speech, skittles, until the teams exchanged singles and finally Keith got a two to put the game to bed.

In the girls competition Ayr had Mags Agnew with Gail Thomson, Linda McAuley and Gillian King in the semi up against the holders, Team Kesley. A tight game which got those watching the line scores at home excited when the girls were erroneous given an 11-8 win. After 7 ends the Ayr girls were 8-7 up but went into the last end without the hammer which allowed Susan Kesley’s rink to claim the win 10-8.

In the final, it was Kesley against Jackie Lockhart and again there was nothing between the two team With a single shot separating the teams after 7 ends but it was Jackie Lockhart who was able to claim victory by  10-8.

And so it’s Teams Prentice and Lockhart who will be heading out to Kerowna in April and we wish Robert and the two teams well.
